"Google Ads audit" gets used two very different ways. Sometimes it means a free, algorithm-generated score that takes sixty seconds and exists to book a sales call. Sometimes it means a paid, multi-day manual review with a written deliverable you keep either way. I checked eight of these directly this week: what each one actually looks at, what it costs when that's published, and who it genuinely fits. If you're still weighing an agency against a freelancer or an in-house hire in the first place, that's a separate question, covered in Google Ads Agency vs Freelancer vs In-House (2026).
WordStream and Adalysis are the fastest way to get an instant, free baseline with no sales call attached. 1Digital Agency, Solutions 8, Disruptive Advertising, and Online Labs's own free tier all offer a genuinely free, human-reviewed audit, though the first three of those four are gated behind a sales process and real ad spend minimums, while the Online Labs free tier is not. KlientBoost folds the audit into onboarding rather than offering it standalone. For a paid, manual audit with a fixed price and a written deliverable you keep regardless of what happens next, ScaleMarketer and Online Labs's own $800 audit are the two options here that actually publish one, with the Online Labs version going deeper across Merchant Center, GA4, and the site's conversion path on top of Google Ads itself.
01What a Real Google Ads Audit Actually Checks
A genuine audit, free or paid, should touch the same handful of areas regardless of who runs it: account and campaign structure, conversion tracking accuracy, search terms and negative keyword coverage, Quality Score and ad relevance, bid strategy against actual budget, and, for anyone running Shopping or Performance Max, Merchant Center feed health. What separates a useful audit from a marketing teaser is depth, whether someone actually reads a search terms report line by line, or a script just checks whether negative keywords exist at all.
The free-versus-paid split here is really a depth-and-obligation split. Audit pricing also sits inside a wider fee picture, which is laid out in what Google Ads management really costs. A free audit costs nothing, but it usually assumes you're evaluating whether to hire the person running it, so it stops short of a full account restructure. A paid audit is a transaction on its own, with real hours behind it and a deliverable that has to justify the price regardless of whether you ever become a client.
- You're comfortable it's step one of a sales conversation, not a standalone deliverable
- You want a fast baseline before deciding whether a deeper, paid review is worth it
- Your account is small enough that most free tiers' ad spend minimums don't apply
- You want a written deliverable you can hand to your own team or a different agency
- You've already talked to a few agencies and want an independent read, not another pitch
- Your account is complex enough, Shopping, PMax, multiple markets, that a 60-second automated grade won't catch what's actually wrong

Before paying for a manual audit, run your account through my own free 25-point automated checker, a different, faster tool than the manual free audit covered below. Connect via OAuth and get a scored report in under three minutes.
03WordStream: Best Free Instant Audit Tool
WordStream's Google Ads Performance Grader is the closest thing to a pure self-serve audit on this list. Connect an account, and in under a minute it grades eight areas, wasted spend, Quality Score, click-through rate, account activity, long-tail keyword use, ad text, landing pages, and general best practices, against an overall score and industry benchmarks.
It's genuinely free with no sales call required to see the results, which makes it the fastest way to get a directional read. The tradeoff is depth: an automated grader can flag that negative keyword coverage looks thin, but it can't read an actual search terms report and name which specific queries are burning budget the way a manual review would. Best fit: a business owner who wants a quick, no-cost gut check before deciding whether a deeper audit is worth paying for.
04Adalysis: Best Free Audit Backed by a Full PPC Platform
Adalysis, a London-based PPC software company, runs a free automated audit covering performance, Quality Score, account structure, and personalized account insights, connected read-only with no changes made and no manager access granted to the account.
What separates it from a typical free grader is that Adalysis is a real ongoing product, not just a lead magnet. The same audit engine that flags issues also feeds into a 30-day free trial of their full optimization, monitoring, and rule-engine platform. Best fit: an in-house PPC manager or small agency who wants the free audit as a preview of a tool they might actually run week to week, not a one-time report.
05Online Labs (Dan Kabakov): Best for a Free or Full-Stack Google Ads Audit
This is my own agency, so take the placement with that in mind. I actually run two tiers, not one, and it's worth showing both rather than only showing up here at the $800 price point next to everyone else's free option. The free tier, for accounts spending $2,000 a month or more, is a human review of five areas inside Google Ads itself: conversion tracking, campaign structure, search terms and keywords, bid strategy, and a prioritized fix list, delivered in three to five business days.
Both of those tiers are done by me personally. If you want an instant, fully automated score before booking either one, I also built a free Google Ads Audit Tool that connects via Google OAuth and returns a scored 25-point report in under three minutes, no email required. I compared it against the paid account-scoring tools on the market in Best AI Tools for Google Ads Management (2026).
The $800 tier is the deeper one, and it's genuinely broader than a single-platform audit: on top of the Google Ads review, it adds a full Google Merchant Center review, a GA4 setup and ecommerce-tracking review, and a website conversion path review, plus an account health scorecard across ten surfaces, a tiered 90-day action plan with a forecast, and a 60-minute walkthrough call with a recording. Turnaround runs seven to ten business days. Both tiers stay Google-Ads-centric, no Meta or TikTok bundled in, and neither needs manager-level account access. Full breakdown of what's in each tier: Free Google Ads Audit.
The specialization is narrower than most of the agencies above. I manage Google Ads exclusively for ecommerce and DTC brands, with specific depth in fine jewelry and other high-ticket Shopping accounts. The most direct proof point is a fine jewelry retailer I've managed for three years, scaled 18x with a peak ROAS of 680% and a sustained ROAS of 4.5x across the relationship, plus a 32% lower cost per booking and 2.1x bookings for BookRetreats. The $800 tier's fit is $5,000 a month in ad spend as a floor, $10,000 and up is where it works best. 061Digital Agency: Best Free Multi-Platform Audit for Larger Brands
1Digital Agency, a Philadelphia-based ecommerce agency operating since 2012, runs a free multi-platform PPC audit across Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta, and Amazon. A senior strategist reviews campaign structure, keyword and search-query performance, conversion tracking (including Consent Mode v2 and server-side tagging), and Quality Score, then delivers a written report with prioritized recommendations. The agency states a 4.9-out-of-5 rating across 941-plus verified reviews and 400-plus brands served.
The audit feeds directly into their ecommerce PPC management service, and most audits complete within five to ten business days. Best fit: a brand running paid media across more than one platform that wants a single written report covering all of them, rather than separate audits from separate specialists.
07Solutions 8: Best Free Audit Tied to a Growth Strategy Call
Solutions 8, a Chicago-based agency running Google, Meta, TikTok, and Amazon ads alongside CRM and automation work, offers what it calls a Growth Plan: a one-on-one call where a senior strategist reviews the account and delivers a customized audit at no cost, for businesses it deems eligible. The agency reports a 4.9-out-of-5 rating across 84 Google reviews.
The audit itself isn't self-serve. It happens live, on a call, after a short intake form, and it's explicitly framed as step one toward a personalized quote rather than a standalone deliverable, with a stated $2,000-a-month ad spend minimum before they'll run one. Best fit: a brand already thinking about a multi-channel agency relationship, not one that wants a quick written report and nothing else.
08Disruptive Advertising: Best Free Audit With a Performance Guarantee Attached
Disruptive Advertising, a Utah-based agency that states over a billion dollars of ad spend experience and an average 4.8-out-of-5 rating on Clutch, offers a no-obligation audit as the entry point to what it calls a free 30-day strategy proposal, with a guarantee that if it doesn't deliver results in that window, the brand doesn't pay. The agency's own stated finding, worth treating as their claim rather than an independent benchmark, is that on average 68% of the ad spend across accounts they review is wasted.
Access to the audit is qualification-gated, and a $2,500-a-month retainer minimum rules out smaller accounts. Best fit: a larger brand that wants an audit backed by a sizeable team and is comfortable with a real trial period attached, rather than a one-off report.
09KlientBoost: Best When the Audit Is Already Part of Onboarding
KlientBoost, a full-service PPC and landing page agency founded in 2015 with an average 4.8-out-of-5 rating across 392 reviews, publishes a public 7-step Google Ads audit framework, but doesn't offer it as a standalone free or paid product the way most agencies on this list do. A comprehensive account audit is instead the first step of their own onboarding process, run before any campaign changes, feeding directly into strategy development and their proprietary optimization frameworks.
That means there's no separate audit deliverable to evaluate on its own, the real evaluation is whether to become a client first. Best fit: a brand that's already decided it wants full-service PPC management and landing page work together, and is fine with the audit and the fix happening inside one continuous engagement rather than as two separate steps.
10ScaleMarketer: Best Paid Audit for Shopify D2C Brands
ScaleMarketer, a Bangalore-based ecommerce PPC agency run by Madhukar S.V., sells a genuinely standalone $499 Google Ads audit built specifically for Shopify D2C brands. It's manual, not templated: five business days from granting read-only access to delivery, covering brand-versus-non-brand revenue split, Performance Max cannibalization of Search, campaign architecture, search terms and negatives, bid strategy, Merchant Center feed health, conversion tracking, and audience hygiene, ending in a recorded 90-minute screen-share and a written 22-point action plan the brand keeps either way.
The scope is narrow on purpose. The agency states it's built for Shopify brands at $75,000 to $150,000 a month in revenue, spending $15,000 or more a month on Google Ads, mostly in beauty, skincare, supplements, and adjacent verticals, and says directly it's not the right fit below that spend. The $499 credits toward month one if a brand signs within 14 days. Best fit: a Shopify D2C brand at real scale that wants a fixed-price, manual audit with a specific published deliverable list, and is comfortable with a narrower vertical focus than most agencies on this list.
11How to Choose Between a Free and a Paid Audit
Four checks, in order, before booking anything on this list.
A free audit from an agency is step one of their sales process, useful, but it stops short of the point where a deeper look would require real committed hours. A paid audit is a transaction on its own, the deliverable has to earn its price regardless of what happens next.
Several free audits on this list are gated: Solutions 8 wants $2,000 a month or more, Disruptive Advertising wants a $2,500 monthly retainer just to qualify, ScaleMarketer's paid audit is built for $15,000-plus a month. Confirm your account clears the floor before spending time on an intake form.
If Meta or Amazon is a real part of spend, a Google-Ads-only audit from a specialist misses real budget. If Google Ads is the only real paid channel, a multi-platform audit spends time on platforms that don't matter here.
Some audits end in a call and a general debrief that only makes full sense in the context of a sales pitch. Others, ScaleMarketer's 22-point plan and a written specialist report among them, end in a document built to be handed to your own team or a different agency entirely.
I'll look at your actual account and tell you honestly whether a free automated check is enough, or whether a deeper paid review would actually catch something. No pitch attached.
